Coventry Flag: winner announced

Following a competition run by BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire the winner was unveiled in a ceremony on December 7th. The winning design features famous local heroine Lady Godiva for the city’s ancient history and strong principles. Godiva is placed on a white stripe to represent the road to peace, and thus the city’s modern history. Finally either side of this are stripes of iconic Coventry Blue from the city’s textile heritage which have become the city’s sporting colours.

Our Communities Vexillologist, Philip Tibbetts, said: “The winning design could really be for nowhere other than the great city of Coventry. Showcasing it’s famous colours, industry and of course the legendary principles of its people”.

The flag will appear on the Flag Institute’s registry in due course.
