Design a flag for Girvan

Design a flag for Girvan – that’s the challenge laid down by this South Ayrshire town.

After spotting the Caithness flag during a chance visit, a member of Girvan’s lifeboat crew came up with the idea.

And now over a dozen schools, councils and community groups – led by Girvan Arts Festival – have come together to organise the competition.

Working alongside them is Philip Tibbetts, Flag Institute Communities Vexillologist and Honorary Vexillologist at the Lyon Court.

Philip will be visiting all the local schools and students will have chance to design a flag during lessons.

Other aspiring designers can pick up an entry pack from Girvan Library or from the Girvan Arts Festival website.

To enter, you must have a KA26 postcode (or contact the organisers if you have a link to the town but live outside the area).

Email your completed design to info@girvanartsfestival.com or hand it in at Girvan Library.

Entries close on 31 March 2025, with a public vote between four shortlisted designs scheduled for 21 April – 5 May.
