Notes: | The South Uist Flag is a community flag proclaiming the unique identity of this Hebridean island. The flag displays a fimbriated Nordic cross modelled on the Norwegian flag, but with a green field. Although its origins are uncertain, it became well established in South Uist in the early 200s. It may derive from a Western Isles proposal made in 2003 or from earlier internet proposals. Stòras Uibhist, the community landlord, made the formal submission. responding to a petition organised by former local councillor Donnie Steele. South Uist Community Council approved the petition, as did the Western Isles Council. |
