Notes: | The Birmingham Flag is a community flag proclaiming the unique identity of this Warwickshire city and its people. Two conjoined blue triangles form an abstract representation of the letter B for Birmingham. Their colour also indicates the importance of the city to the UK canal network. The golden zigzag line that borders them forms an abstract vertical letter M. Symbolising the Roman symbol for one thousand, this recalls Birmingham’s sobriquet, the ‘city of a thousand trades’. Positioned next to the colour blue, it also represents closed lock gates on a canal. The overall design serves to represent the historic arms of the de Birmingham family and the current city council. Finally, the golden bull’s head in the centre symbolises the Bull Ring — the geographic, economic and historic heart of the city. |
