Life member John Vaughan is celebrating today – and with good reason.
In the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours List, he receives the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia ‘for service to vexillography and history preservation’.
John is a renowned designer and maker of flags.
He is a leading authority on flag history, meaning and etiquette, with over 3,000 talks and media interviews to his credit.
He is the founder of the Australian National Flag Day, celebrating the flag’s first hoisting on 3 September 1901.
And he has helped to organise many other significant events – including the First Fleet Re-enactment for Australia’s Bicentennial in 1988.
Congratulations, John Vaughan OAM!
