A grand online FI 50th birthday party will open the Flag Institute’s Golden Jubilee Year on Friday 23 April, 7pm-9.30pm.
Trustees, members and special guests will share memories and views of the FI – past, present and future.
And US film-maker Patrick O’Connor will be there to discuss his new documentary, Look Away, Look Away.
Five years in the making, Patrick’s film explores the controversy surrounding the Mississippi state flag, the last in the USA to display the Confederate battle emblem. In 2020 a state-wide ballot voted to approve a new flag. Patrick will discuss the ideas and processes behind his film. He will explore the history of the old and new state flags. He will also speak about time spent at rallies and protests and of conversations with activists, politicians, ministers and vexillologists.
