| Notes: | The Digbeth Flag is a community flag proclaiming the unique identity of this district of Birmingham (Warwickshire). Digbeth Residents Association requested the registration of this flag, which first flew at the Digbeth O’Lympics (19 September 2010). The flag comprises three horizontal bands: light blue (top), black (centre) and white (bottom). Light blue, the ancient heraldic colour of Ireland, represents Digbeth’s Irish heritage and also evokes the sky. In the black band are four white semi-circles, evoking the Victorian railway viaduct that cuts through Digbeth. The white band features four black semi-circles above black ripples, evoking the viaduct reflected in the local canals. The ripples also symbolise the river Rea, the birthplace of Birmingham, which now flows underground. In addition they stand for audio speakers and music, denoting Digbeth’s role as a hub of the modern urban arts scene. |
