Since 1965 vexillologists worldwide have met at the biennial International Congress of Vexillology (ICV).
Each ICV is organised by a different host, appointed since 1969 by the Fédération Internationale des Assocations Vexillologiques (FIAV).
The next Congress is ICV30, taking place in Beijing (PR China), 12–16 August 2024, and hosted by the Vexillological Research Center of China.
The Flag Institute has hosted or co-hosted four past ICVs:
- ICV5, London, 1973; ICV10, Oxford, 1983 (co-hosted with the Heraldry Society);
- ICV19, York, 2001; ICV27, London, 2017
