Notes: | The Wessex Flag is a community flag proclaiming the unique identity of this historic region. The flag consists of a gold wyvern (dragon) on a red field. Historians writing in the 10th and 12th centuries describe this pattern as the ancient standard of the West Saxons. It also appears in the Bayeux Tapestry (c. 1077 CE), close to the dying King Harold. Later English kings continued to carry the dragon into battle until the 15th century. https://wessexsociety.com/wessex-culture/wessex-flag/
