The Glamorgan Flag is a community flag proclaiming the unique identity of this historic Welsh county.

The flag is the banner of the arms attributed to Iestyn ap Gwrgant (1045—93).

Iestyn was the last native ruler of the kingdom of Morgannwg, the forerunner of modern Glamorgan.

Iestyn’s descendant Lleision d’Avene made the first recorded use of the arms in the 12th century.

Since then they have symbolised the county of Glamorgan as well as Iestyn’s descendants.

The motto of Glamorgan, ‘A Ddioddefws A Orfu (He who suffers, triumphs)’ is also that of Iestyn’s lineage.

In the past hundred years a number local authorities have included Iestyn’s arms in their civic arms.

Other county organisations have also incorporated them in their badges and logos.

The Glamorgan History Society requested the registration of this traditional design. They also had the support of local bodies from around the historic county of Glamorgan.

These included: Llantrisant and District Local History Society, Glynneath & District Historical Society, Kenfig Society and Neath Antiquarian Society.
